January 19, 3:30pm - 4:45pm PT: Considerations for Special Education Evaluations for Students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing In the Time of Remote Teaching or In-Person Learning Presented by Rebecca Butz-Houghton and Tara Slinn Conducting special education evaluations for students who are deaf/hard of hearing can be involved and require several considerations. Having to conduct an evaluation remotely or in person (with masks or barriers) each hold their own challenges. Participants will learn environmental factors which could potentially impact student responses and therefore testing results, discuss common pitfalls to avoid during the evaluation, and some typical social-emotional/behavioral characteristics that may present in students who are DHH. Resources will be provided along with guidelines for best practice. Becky Butz-Houghton is a School Psychologist and Tara Slinn is a TOD and former Special Education Director.
